2nd Annual Dia De Los Muertos Blog Hop!!

Hello Everyone and welcome to our 2nd Annual Dia De Los Muertos Blog Hop!!  Day of the Dead has been celebrated in Mexico for many many centuries. It is a day where we remember our loved ones and the beautiful life they had when they lived. Altars are created for those loved ones and their favorite things are put on the altar as an "ofrenda", an offering for them. It is a time of joy and happiness.

Last year I created a small altar for my grandfather and had to make sure I put on the altar some of his favorite things like mayo and some tequila! What a combination! :)

Here is my grandfather doing what he was best at, photography.

Te extraño abuelito (I miss you grandpa)

So, another thing that I always, always associate with Day Of the Dead is Frida Kahlo. Her art reflected what she was feeling and it was her way of expressing herself. Sometimes, hmmm most times a truth that was a little too hard to swallow.

I became inspired by the cover of Vogue where she appeared.

and here is my creation:

Sentiment is a quote from Frida Kahlo, it reads: "Feet, why do I need them if I have wings to fly"
Frida Kahlo had an accident when she was young and had to go through many many surgeries through out her life. At first, doctors believed she might not be able to walk again. Click HERE if you would like know more about her life.

Onto some CANDY!!

Flor Larios is sponsoring our blog again this year!
One winner will receive one of her beautiful prints!!
You can visit her Etsy shop HERE and take a look at her AWESOME work!

and

A Collection of Dilo En Español Stamps
If you have not seen these before click on the name to take you there!
These are all SPANISH sentiments!!

Total of THREE winners!!!

All you have to do is leave a comment and tell me if you
had heard of this celebration before!

I hope you have fun visiting the rest of the blogs!!
You will LOVE every single one of them!!

Next on the hop is my talented friend

Patty's blog is all in Spanish, please still leave her a message! She knows a little English and I am sure she would love to read your messages! She has a lot more history on the Day of the Dead! She lives in Oaxaca, Mexico... one of Mexico's states that celebrates Day of the Dead the most!

Have FUN!!!

Hi, Hola!
Fab creation!, Great theme!...
En mi pais las personss van al cementerio a llevar flores a los seres queridos difuntos, otros prenden velas en sus hogares y rezan, no todo el mundo lo hace.

Hola Abby, What a really nice card and quote! Of course the inspiration for the card is awesome for the theme. I'm from Honduras and out there we celebrate something similar today it's "Día de los Inocentes" Day of the Innocents it originated from the time of King Herod and having the massacre of killing all of those babies trying to get rid of our Lord Jesus Christ. I didn't live much out there since I came to the USA at the age of 5 but I do remember that everyone goes to the Cemetary on the 1st and or the 2nd of Nov. I also remember a lot of my Mexican friends and classmates coming to school with lots of pastries- yum! TFS.

Wait! I clicked post too soon! (lil chris came in the room!) I love that saying! Frida was cool, her art is always speaking of things that make other people cringe, and i love this day because it reminds me of her

Abby I live in Mexico city and I try to continue this tradition. I put the "ofrenda" but there are many ways to celebrate this festivity here in Mexico. I like your car with a "calaverita" as we call here.
