Gaby, my best friend, and I created our first Cricut Cake! I began the night before with the baking of the cake. I used a traditional cake mix but added sour cream, instant pudding and chocolate chips. I baked three 9-inch round cakes. After they cooled I cut the tops to have a clean straight tops. Gaby came over the next day and we began our decoration!! It was lots of fun!! The cake was for my sister Rina who turned 33 (i don't think she'll mind me saying her age :)).
We did encounter a problem with the Cricut frosting sheets. They did not cut properly when trying to do small details. I ruined the blue and the yellow sheets. But, the Wilton fondant cut very nicely. I bought the regular 5 pound box at Michaels with a 50% off coupon. I used colored powder for the diferent colors. The powders I bought in Mexico, if you live close to the border and or travel to Mexico the brand name is Deiman. As for the black fondant I used Duff's brand. If you don't know who Duff is, well... you need to see his creations, click here to take you directly to his gallery. His fondant is very workable and the black is a pure and rich black. Also, his fondant is tasty. I have done other fondant cakes in the past using only Wilton and my family use to take off the fondant and said it tasted funny. I did not see any Duff's fondant leftovers on the plates! Everyone loved the decorations and said that the cake was VERY good. If you would like the actual cake recipe ask away on this post!
